Stockholm is the capital of Sweden, with around 810.000 inhabitants in the city itself. The city is formed by 14 islands linked by 50 bridges on Lake Mälaren.
The city is a very active, cosmopolitan place, blending modern Scandinavian architecture with magic medieval towers, a fascinating Old Town (Gamla Stan) and lots of green parks.

BEST TIME TO GO
The best time to visit this city is between June and September. In Stockholm, the weeks before and after midsummer have almost 24-hour sunlight.
ORIENTATION
The central island of Gamla Stan has a medieval splendour, twisting slim lanes and small picturesque squares with cafés and restaurants. To the south of the city centre you will find Södermalm, with its trendy fashion and design stores and also a vibrant nightlife to enjoy.
In the west Kungsholmen is where sits the beautiful City Hall. Between Östermalm and Södermalm is located the island of Djurgården with its many green parks and amazing museums.
HOW TO GET THERE
By plane
Arlanda Airport is the main international airport, situated 40 km (25 mi) north of the city.
The Arlanda Express Train takes you to the Central Station in 20 minutes and departs every 15 minutes during the day.
Airport coaches (Flygbussarna) run frequently to and from the City Terminal, just next to the Central Station (approx. 40 minutes).
The SL bus 583 connects Arlanda with the northern suburb of Märsta, from where commuter trains take you to Stockholm Central. This takes about an hour.
A taxi ride to central Stockholm takes about 40 minutes and costs around € 44.
Bromma Airport is a smaller airport 10km (6 mi) west of central Stockholm. Airport coaches go to the City Terminal. You can also take the local bus 112 to Spånga station and from there a commuter train to Stockholm Central.
Skavsta Airport is an airport mostly used by Ryanair and Wizzair, located 100 km (62 mi) southwest of Stockholm, near Nyköping.
There are two bus services between Stockholm and Skavsta. The travel time is about 80 minutes.
Airport coaches go to/from the City Terminal in Stockholm every 20 minutes.
Fly by coach (Ryanair) has also a bus service to/from the City Terminal in Stockholm.
Västerås Airport is situated 100 km (62 mi) west of Stockholm. It serves Ryanair flights to/from London (Stansted). Airport coaches go to/from the City Terminal in Stockholm in about 75 minutes.
By train
The main station, Stockholms Central, serves both commuter and long-distance routes. It is located in the city centre, with an underground connection to T-Centralen, the central hub for the subway system.
By bus
The City Terminal is the main bus terminal, centrally located and directly connected to the main train station, Stockholms Central and the T Centralen metro station. There are many daily departures to most other cities in Sweden, as well as some international routes.
By boat
There are many ferry companies connecting Stockholm to other European cities, such as Mariehamn, Helsinki, Turku, Tallinn and Riga.
TRAVELLING AROUND
Stockholm is a wonderful city to visit walking. You can also decide to get a bike and travel around the city. There are cycle paths along the principal streets.
The Stockholm Public Transport runs an extensive subway, commuter train, buses, trams, light rails and ferry services, all using an incorporated ticket system based on coupons.
There is a well-organized metro system called the Tunnelbana. It has 100 stations and takes you to the most principal attractions and also to the closest suburbs. Trains run until almost 1AM during the week and all night on weekends.
