Venice, in Italy, is one of the most exciting and charming places in the world. This haven placed on a lagoon is almost the same as it was 600 years ago.
The city extends across 118 small islands in the swampy Venetian Lagoon along the Adriatic Sea in northeast Italy. Venice is full of canals, bridges, museums and historical buildings of great artistic and cultural significance. REASONS TO GO
Visiting the city in August – it will be overcrowded with tourists.
The city has 180 canals, 450 bridges and is divided into six areas or "sestiere": Cannaregio, San Polo, Dorsoduro (Gallerie dell’Accademia and Peggy Guggenheim Museum), Santa Croce, San Marco (San Marko Basilica and Palazzo Grassi) and Castello.

The summer is probably the worst time to visit: the weather gets too hot and frequently humid, the canals usually smell and there are more tourists than usual.
Spring and fall are probably best, with more pleasant temperatures and less tourists. From September, the lagoon water level sporadically rises above the level of the squares and streets, flooding them (Acqua alta).
Marco Polo Airport is the closest airport, and there are several ways to reach the city centre:
Car taxis: it takes 15 minutes to get to Piazzale Roma. From there you can easily begin your tour of Venice on foot or by waterbus.
Private Water taxis: it is the fastest means to reach the historical centre - about 30 minutes - but also the most expensive.
Bus ATVO: a direct connection from the airport to Venezia (Piazzale Roma) that takes about 20 minutes and leaving every 30 minutes. The ATVO also offers a direct connection from Marco Polo Airport to Mestre Train Station.
Bus ACTV: it is a public transport bus (Line 5) connecting the airport to Venezia making several stops before reaching Piazzale Roma (it takes about 30 minutes). Public Bus Line 15 connects the airport to Mestre Train Station.
Public ACTV water taxi service: it is a private water taxi service which uses public transport's stops. It links the airport to some of the most important areas of Venice. The service includes the Alilaguna’s Red Line and Blue Line. The Alilaguna connects the Airport to Venice Port as well. Both lines leave once per hour.
The Treviso Airport is located 25 km (16 mi) from Venice and is the main destination for low cost airlines. You can reach Venice historic centre by ATVO Fly Bus.
