Capri is a beautiful Italian island located on the south side of the Gulf of Naples, in the Campania region of southern Italy.
The main attractions of the island are the Marina Piccola, the Belvedere of Tragara, the Blue Grotto, the Faraglioni (stacks that stand out of the sea) and Anacapri.
REASONS TO GO
Boutique design hotels on top of the cliffs.
Superb gastronomy and restaurants: the stylish Aurora and the modern La Capannina.
A tour around the island of Capri by boat: tiny bays and beautiful mysterious caves.
ORIENTATION
The small Italian island of Capri is located 5 km from the mainland in the Bay of Naples, a famous splendorous spot, and coastal resort since the days of the Roman Republic until now.
Capri is part of the region of Campania, Province of Naples. The City of Capri is the main centre of population on Capri. It has two harbours, the Marina Piccola and the Marina Grande.
The weather is beautiful in May, June, and September, and you might prefer to travel during this period if you want to avoid the crowds of tourists who arrive on the island in the warmest months of July and August.
HOW TO GET THERE
Capri can be reached by various means of transport. Planes land at Naples International Airport. From there, by taxi, rental car, or bus, you can get to the ports serving Capri.
Trains arrive at the railway stations of Naples, from where taxi, rental cars and buses offer connections to the ports where to board to Capri.
You can also reach Capri from the Naples ports of Calata Porta di Massa (ferries), Molo Beverello and Mergellina (hydrofoils). The journey takes 40 minutes by hydrofoil, 50 minutes by fast ferry, and an hour and 20 minutes by traditional ferry. Boats are operated by Caremar and SNAV.
Those travelling by car should be notice that throughout the tourist season (generally from Easter to the first weekend of November) non-resident vehicles are not authorized to circulate on the island of Capri. It is prudent to leave cars in one of the attended car parks close to the boarding points.
Even though a big part of the island is dedicated to pedestrian areas, there is a good public transport system, connecting all of the areas accessible by road.
Funicular railway
If you are heading for the centre of Capri, the Funicular railway, a train which
slides through the lemon groves, links Marina Grande to the heart of Capri in 5 minutes. The train departs approximately every 15 minutes.
Bus
The Sippic buses connect Capri to Anacapri, Marina Piccola, Marina Grande, Damecuta, and also Marina Grande to Anacapri and Marina Piccola to Anacapri.
The Staiano Autotrasporti links Anacapri to the Grotta Azzurra and the Punta Carena Lighthouse. The journeys take around 20 minutes.
The UnicoCapri is a transport cart valid on all means of public transport and there are three types of ticket: single journey tickets, hourly tickets and daily tickets.
Motorbikes and bicycles can be rented at the port, in Capri, and in Anacapri.
