ORIENTATION
Liverpool is located on the north side of the River Mersey in England's Northwest, about 216 miles from London. It is about three miles up river from Liverpool Bay, part of the Irish Sea, and is extra protected from oceanic weather by a peninsula known as The Wirral.

HOW TO GET THERE
By plane
Liverpool John Lennon Airport (www.liverpoolairport.com) is just 7 miles from the city centre. There are direct flights from all across Europe. Liverpool now also connects with over 650 destinations across the world through KLM's Amsterdam hub.
To get to the city centre you have a low cost bus service (30 minutes)- the Airlink 500, or you can take a bus to Liverpool South Parkway Merseyrail station that will allow you to get quickly to the city centre by train.
Taxis cost around � 14 and take 20 minutes.
There is also a rail link from Manchester Airport directly into Liverpool City Centre (www.manchesterairport.co.uk/manweb.nsf). It takes around 1� hours.
By train
Liverpool is served by Liverpool Lime Street station which is in the city centre. Trains arrive frequently from all parts of the U.K. From London it takes only 2 hours.
The West Coast Main Line is a national railway, linking England, Wales, Scotland and, via the Holyhead Dun Laoghaire sea crossing, Eire. The main trunk route operates over the 401 miles from London Euston to Glasgow Central, with lines branching off to the West Midlands, Liverpool, Manchester and North Wales.
By Coach
There are good express connections to Liverpool from most towns and cities in Britain. The National Express coach station is located in Norton Street, Liverpool City Centre. www.nationalexpress.co.uk
TRAVELLING AROUND
Liverpool City Centre is quite small and easy to walk around. Concerning public transportation, buses run out from the centre regularly from Paradise Street Interchange (mainly to the south) and Queen Square (mainly north/east).
The train service in Liverpool is quite reliable and efficient. The main stations in the city centre are Central, Lime Street, Moorfields and James Street.
Lime Street is the terminus for many national lines and the local city line to Manchester. Moorfields is just off Dale Street, ideal for the business centre of Liverpool and Central is generally used by shoppers and visitors. Local trains run very regularly between Hunts Cross, Kirkby, Ormskirk and Southport on the Northern line. The Wirral line forms the link between the Lime Street, Moorfields and Central, so all of these stations act as an interchange between the City, Northern and Wirral lines.
