INFORMATION

In the extreme south of Croatia, we find Dubrovnik, an old city on the Adriatic Sea coast, where live around 44.000 people. Dubrovnik is known as "Pearl of the Adriatic" and is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

It is one of the most famous tourist resorts of the Mediterranean, and also a seaport and the centre of the Dubrovnik-Neretva County.

REASONS TO GO

The medieval style roofs

Walking down the Stradun by night – a sort of romantic Dubrovnik Ramblas

Sailing – from Dubrovnik you can take a boat and explore the southern Adriatic coast

ORIENTATION

Dubrovnikis a unique destination: The old city walls so well preserved the medieval, renaissance and baroque architecture, the Adriatic Sea landscape, and all the cafés and restaurants. It’s really wonderful and worth visiting.

The old city is divided in two by the Stradun, with many cafés and restaurants, monuments and historic buildings. The main points of interest are the Franciscan Monastery, The Sponza Palace, the Dominican Monastery, the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary and the impressive old city walls.

BEST TIME TO GO

The weather is a characteristic Mediterranean one, with gentle, rainy winters and hot and dry summers. The Dubrovnik Summer Festival is a great happening, worth going to. Many commercial establishments are closed from November to May.

HOW TO GET THERE

Dubrovnik has an international airport, located in Cilipi, about 20 km away from the city centre.

There are flights from many European capitals (Berlin, Vienna, London, Paris, and Amsterdam). Buses connect the airport with the Dubrovnik main bus station.

Travelling by boat (www.jadrolinija.hr) is also a good option. They connect Dubrovnik to Split, Rijeka and other points. There area also ferries from many Italian ports.

TRAVELLING AROUND

The old town is very easy to visit walking. If you aren’t staying in the Old Town, it's quite simple to get there by bus or you can of course choose to rent a car.
