BEST TIME TO VISIT
You can visit this beautiful beach state at any month of the year. But the best time of year to visit is between the middle of September and the end of February, winter season, this is also the peak tourist season. ORIENTATION
To the northern side of the city you will find the most popular beaches, such as Baga and Candolim, and also plenty of restaurants, bars and nightclubs.
Panaji (Panjim) is the state capital located on the banks of the Mandovi river and Vasco, Margao, Mapusa and Ponda are the other major towns.
The Anjuna beach, further on the north, is known for its hippie community and mood.
To the south of the city, the beaches are excellent and have a more peaceful atmosphere. In this area there are located the best resorts, such as the Alila Goa.
HOW TO GET THERE
Indian Railways connects Goa with Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Mangalore, Kochi, Kolkata, Thiruvanantapuram, Bangalore, Chennai and Hyderabad. The destination station is usually Madgaon in South Goa.
Goa has one airport at Dabolim, which receives some direct flights, but mostly connection flights from Mumbai. It is a good option to take a pre-paid taxi to the city centre. Most resorts have free pick ups from the airport.
TRAVELLING AROUND
The best way to visit the city is by car. It is possible as well to rent a bicycle or a motorcycle. Taxis are also available to take you around the city.
